Justin Timberlake Will Write and Perform New Music for the Upcoming Trolls Film
Yes, J.T. is for sure making new music—but it’s maybe not exactly the follow up to the 20/20 Experience that you had in mind… Let’s just say that those fuchsia-haired, bejeweled belly button toys of yesteryear may have just scored the way back into all of our hearts.
It was announced this morning that Justin Timberlake has signed on to not just play the voice of a character named Branch in DreamWorks’ upcoming animated film Trolls (yes, after the somewhat scary but endlessly endearing toys of our past), and he will also serve as the film’s executive music producer, writing and performing original music for the movie. After our initial raised eyebrow, the union actually really works: Who is more endearing and good humored to play an adventuring troll than this charming omelette?
“I have always envisioned bringing the two worlds of film and music together for one epic event [and] couldn’t be more excited that they will collide in DreamWorks’ Trolls,” Timberlake told The Hollywood Reporter. “This film is very special, the music is going to be very special and I can’t wait for everyone to experience it all.” Before Timberlake, Pharrell Williams produced both the first and second Despicable Me soundtracks, and Will.i.am worked on the music for both Rio films as well.
Trolls is set to be released on November 4th of this year and will also star the voice of Anna Kendrick. This may not have been on our “Must See Winter Movie” list before, but oh man, are we looking forward to it now.
