For Christine Baranski, The Good Wife has been the one constant during seven years of change. The CBS drama has been the backbone as the Emmy winner experienced family milestones and loss, so you can understand why the end has hit her particularly hard.

“The day I found out the show wasn’t going to come back I remember being kind of sanguine about it…And then I woke up the next morning as though someone had died. It was a very, very heavy feeling in my heart,” Baranski told E! News when we visited the set for the penultimate episode of the series. “And that’s not just because of the character…it’s the people with whom I worked, the actors, the crew, the writers, just everybody…”

Baranski’s Diane Lockhart became known to fans equally for her resilience and her fashion, so when we sat down with her we had to ask: does she have a favorite Diane Lockhart brooch? The answer? Yes, of course she does.

What is The Good Wife‘s legacy?

The Good Wife, Verdict, Party

“I just wore it in this second to last episode. It’s like this wild bird…It’s the phoenix rising from the ashes, which is kind of appropriate because that episode is so much about Diane’s quest to make it a new firm with all female partners, she’s just so full of all this energy with the idea of something really new that she’s always wanted,” she told us.

The Good Wife has always had an excess of musically talented people—from series regulars like Baranski and Alan Cumming to guests like Matthew Morrison, Laura Benanti, Nathan Lane and Megan Hilty—but Baranski never did get her musical episode. She does, however, have a plan for one and even knows what song Diane would sing in it. Click play on the video up top for that answer and more from Baranski.

The Good Wife airs Sundays, 9 p.m. on CBS. The final episode airs May 8.
