Dylan O'Brien, who has become a huge draw for young fans thanks to his work on MTV's Teen Wolf and the Maze Runner series, has apparently been hospitalized following a serious accident on the set of The Maze Runner: The Death Cure. Depending on what outlet you read the nature of the accident changes, but Fox has offered up this official statement on the matter:
"Dylan O'Brien was injured yesterday while filming 'Maze Runner: The Death Cure' in Vancouver, Canada. He was immediately transferred to a local hospital for observation and treatment. Production on the film will be shut down while he recovers. Our thoughts go out to Dylan for a full and speedy recovery."
As mentioned, different outlets are reporting different details at this stage. Variety reports that O'Brien was "hit by a car and suffered multiple injuries." TMZ reports that he was filming a scene involving a car "when something went wrong and he was run over." However, Deadline's report is a bit contradictory, stating he "fell off the back of a set that was supposed to look like the back of a train and fractured either his cheekbone or orbital socket (still not clear on the details) when he fell on his face."
The finer details will surely come to light before too long, just as they did when Harrison Ford was injured on the Force Awakens set, but for now one thing is clear: Whatever happened to O'Brien was serious enough that he needed to be hospitalized and that the production will have to temporarily shut down. Whatever the injuries, we hope he'll have a swift, full recovery.
