We’ve got a light drizzle during the Droughtlander for you, y’all!

While season three of Outlander is still all the way in 2017 (Boo!), we do have some good news for fans of the Starz’s hit: two characters for the upcoming third season, which is based on Voyager, the third book of Diana Gabaldon‘s Outlander series, have just been cast.

John Bell is set to take on the role of Young Ian Murray, while Wil Johnson will play Joe Abernathy, Starz announced on Tuesday. And while they are joining the series together, they likely won’t be sharing any screen time as they are appearing in different centuries.

Bell’s Young Ian is set to join Jamie’s (Sam Heughan) world in the 18th century, and Johnson’s Joe Abernathy will meet Claire (Caitriona Balfe) in Boston in the 20th century, acting as her new friend and medical colleague.

Described as a tall, gangly Scottish lad with a heart of gold, a stubborn streak and a penchant for getting in trouble, Young Ian Murray is more like his adventurous and fierce uncle Jamie than his farmer father, Ian. While fans will meet him as a very gawky boy, we’ll see him grow into quite a formidable man as the series evolves.

As for Joe Abernathy, he’s a fellow doctor-in-training whom Claire befriends in medical school, and is described as intelligent and charismatic. Fans can expect to see Joe become a loyal confidant for Claire, as they both feel out of place in the mostly all-white, all-male medical field, a struggle that will bond them together in a life-long friendship.

Bell and Johnson are the latest new additions for season three, as Australian actor David Berry was recently cast in the pivotal role of Lord John Grey.

Season three will pick up right after Claire traveled through the stones to return to her life in 1948, where she will struggle with the fallout of her reappearance its effects on her marriage to her first husband, Frank. Oh, and of course, she’s also pregnant, with Jamie suffering the aftermath of the battle of Culloden in the 18th century. Will they be able to make a life apart from one another or will they find a way to reunite?

Season three of Outlander will premiere in 2017 and a fourth season has already been ordered.
