Review: Songs From Waitress by Sara Bareilles
There’s an irresistible picture of a pie printed on this album’s CD. In the case of Sara Bareilles’ latest album – which also serves as an inspiration for upcoming Broadway musical Waitress – there’s a delicious-looking menu (lyrics book).
While there is no actual pie offered with the album, Bareilles makes up for it with the gorgeous ballad and lead single She Used To Be Mine. Feel her clear voice carry you through this poignant tune about losing one’s identity to changes in life. Fortunately, it’s not all doom and gloom. Love song You Matter To Me features the mesmerising vocals of Jason Mraz and it’s enough to put a smile on anyone’s face.
She also picks up the tempo on Everything Changes, an inspirational pop number. When He Sees Me, is a hilarious musical number about the pitfalls of dating. If you ever find yourself feeling insecure or doubtful about a date with someone you met on Tinder, this charming number is your new theme song.
What’s Inside: Songs From Waitress has some outstanding slices of music to fill you up with joy. That’s almost as good as pie.
