This Sweatshirt Is Guaranteed to Last Forever…Well, Almost
If long-term commitment has never been your thing, you might want to just stop reading now. British entrepreneur Tom Cridland has made a sweatshirt that’s guaranteed to last for 30 years, an impressive accomplishment he says is possible due to a special silicone treatment that helps prevent shrinking and piling. And while he certainly hasn’t been hawking the style for a full three decades (he’s only 25, natch), he got to the number in a pretty legit way.
“I asked them, ‘Show me the oldest sweatshirts you guys have ever made,'” Cridland recounted to Reuters about his decision to work a Portuguese team of craftsmen. “They’ve been in business since 1964 as a supplier and showed me a sweatshirt from the late 1970s which was still in perfect condition.”

The sweatshirts are made of organic cotton and a bit of polyester (it “doesn’t sound so glamorous but is very helpful for functionality, mobility, and comfort”) and retail for roughly $82 by current conversion rates. Only men’s styles exist, but with a mega size range that goes from extra-small to XXX-large, it’s not hard to imagine the ladies scooping up the smaller sizes.
Cridland and others need not worry that there’s no interest in the eco-friendly, fast fashion-averse style either: A crowd-sourcing campaign raised 316 percent of its goal in a speedy two months.
